When most people think of Russia, they probably imagine bears, bitter frosts and matreshka. Many years ago people used on holidays bears for fun. It is reasonable to say that the climate in Russia is temperate and, of course, our winter frosts are hard. In the past matreshka was simply the toy for children.
Most people would agree, however, that these images do not reflect contemprory Russia, they are old-fashioned. You can see bears only in zoo or in the forests in Siberia. Our climate is milder than 20 years ago. There is no doubt that nowadays matreshka is only the simbol of Russia.
Now people have another associations connected with Russia. Many foreigners feel that modern Russia would include a great deal of oil and natural gaz fields and a lot of oligarchs. This fact is undeniable, but for me it's not a reason for pride. It seems to me that tourists would like to visit Moscow, the Golden Ring, Russian ancient towns and go sightseeing. Russian nature is unique and spectacular. Picturesque fields, boundless forests, wide rivers, a good deal of different animals... You can't see such beautiful nature anywhere!
Foreigners usually consider Russia as a vast, extremely cold covered with snow the biggest part of the year. They see Russian people as friendly and rather poor ones drinking vodka to warm up. Furthermore, the most people from Europe and USA (especially) still associate modern Russia with soviet symbols and prejudices from cold war times.
It is reasonable to say that such an image was created not without the help of our weather and people, but it's fair to say that Russia is a lot more than stereotypical impressions. It is undeniable that Russia is a country with rich history, our land evidenced a lot of events, the existence of which is proved in stunning historical monuments, places, churches. It is important to add that Russian nation is a nation of great warriors who fearlessly defeat the enemy and the land of great artists, writers, musicians and scientists. Many people would agree that Moscow State University is a world-famous centre of education and science development. We are proud of our rich varied land - from the extreme south (which borders with hot deserts) to extreme north and frozen clear waters of the Arctic ocean. Most people would agree that Russia place an important role in the world relations.
For all these reasons it could be argued that Russia is a nearly deserted snowy place on the planet. It seems to me that a better image of Russia which represents the country in the most fair way would be pictures of contemporary cities, latest science projects and masterpieces of our geniuses as well as images of historical sights. Perhaps it would attract tourists more than Lenin and Stalin look-alikes on the Red square:)

But I can’t believe that the greatest country can be described in such words. Let’s try to see the inner world of the biggest country of the world. It’s huge and different. It has 9 time zones and thousands of interesting holidays and traditions. Carnival or Maslenitsa is a winter holiday when people eat pancakes (blini). Then, saying goodbye to winter people burn scarecrow (chychilo). One of the most majestic public holiday, which is celebrated in each corner of the biggest country, Is Victory Day. Day, when people honor victory against Germany.
The enormous size of Russia and the remoteness of many areas from the sea result in the dominance of the humid continental climate, which is prevalent practically in all parts of the country. It has 4 distinct seasons. This fact allows people to try all kind of sports. Russia had won many worlds’ sport competitions and is known as sport power. Country’s sport future prospects look fantastic. 2014- Winter Olympic Games will be held in Sochi, 2018-The World Football Cup will be held in 7 cities of the biggest country. It would be greatest events to the all world.
Russia is the greatest country with huge history full of sunsets and sunrises. 2o years ago after disintegration of the USSR, country was in decline .The economy crises made people unite in criminal groups. Thousands of young people died in those times. But now, everything has changed ,Russia constantly develops its economy that influences all spheres of society- science, high technologies, education, medicine and human rights. Nowadays Russia is highly-developed democratic country with great future.

Well,what can I say? Russia like every country has its own stereotypes among the foreigners.First of all,there is a myth that we have bears walking down the streets in uschanka.Next,Lenin lived,Lenin lives,Lenin shall live!And finally they think we have tanks in our cities and RED COMMUNISM!Yes, of course it's undeniable that Lenin,Stalin and several others political leaders played and still nowadays play among some circles a great influence,but I don't think it's bad.On the contrary it's good,it's a history.There is no doubt that Soviet Army defeated German national-socialism and put an end to Adolf Hitler.The problem doesn't lie in a particular country,it lies,first of all in people's minds.Every country may be either open or closed,but it depends on a person to study, to self-educate.You should read books,expand your knowledge.It seems to me that those people who create myths about foreign countries are,first of all,amateurs.Most people would agree that is incredible that Russia survived so far after all these wars driving back the invaders.It is fair to say our nation never waged war on any country.

It is undeniable that our country managed to put an end to Hitler's Third Reich,but nowadays even in our lands there are such people,who desecrate our legacy and spit into our face.The memory should be preserved.Next,it could be argued that only our country has problems.The U.S.A. is a strange country for me,'cause I don't understand some specifics of their way of life,but that doesn't mean I'm against 'em.Finally,Russia is famous since The Cold War times by its Communism.Very often foreigners are simply afraid of communism,as they were frightened to death by official american propaganda.
It is fair to say that when you say a foreigner the word "Russia" he imagines very strict frosts all year round, Red Square, rich people (oligarchs) and, as they think, our national drink- vodka. So it seems to me that before visiting our country they have rather negative picture of Russia. Foreigners think that Russians are still under the influence of Communism and Socialism, there is no cinema and good music, people have no taste in clothing and foreigners even can't imagine russian fashion industry.
Unfortunately there are really negative points in our country. For example the corruption of our country, human life isn's so valued as for example in Europe.It is undeniable that our winters can be very cold. But people shouldn't notice only such stereotypes, because there is so many points for which we can be proud.
RF is a large, strong country with various kinds of climate. Our country one of the most beautiful countries in the world. You can enjoy either northern frosts or southern resorts, thick forests or boundless valleys. West and East unit in our country and it would be great if we could take one's best of it. People who live in other countries should know that we aren't the country of the third world. Last time Russia wins the grand prizes in different competitions. The most important world championships were already held in Russia or will be held. So I hope it will arise respect to Russia from foreigners and they would like to visit it, change their mind to the better and make sure that they were noy right.

It is understandable that now this doll is only a piece of Russian culture for foreigners, because it is not so popular as a toy now. But several centuries ago it was a real toy for a lot of girls. It is reasonable to say that this set of dolls symbolizes a large family. The number of nested figures is traditionally at least five. At that time the first doll was a wife, the next, inside of the first, was a husband and the last three dolls were children. Now it consists of only five girls.
It seems to me that matryoshka or babushka doll is one of the most known symbols of Russia. Most people would agree that colorful wooden babushka dolls attracts attention faster than any other souvenir. There is no doubt that the painted dress shows our national Russian costume. And it is fair to say that matryoshka is known all over the world.

It's generally recognized that Russians winters are madly cold. It's undeniable that foreigners have also associated our country with God-lost freezy land with huge beers and wild people in ugly fury clothes walking along the Red Square. It sounds more horrible than Alaska or North Pole, isn’t it?! It seems to me that foreigners know nothing about our "deadly" hot summers.

So, there is no doubt that our weather is really severe. Winters are as scold as summers are hot. But, it’s fairly to say that despite summer 2010 disasters I love my country and our climate. I think that there must be a real freeze in winter. The only thing that there must be a balance in it as in everything.
